The purpose of The Center for Rappahannock-Rapidan Environmental Stewardship (CRRES) is to initiate and exchange environmental information and tools to organizations and interested partners throughout the region.

CRRES was created through a grant from the EPA through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to support the educational and outreach efforts of local and state government agencies, Soil & Water Conservation Districts, and nonprofit organizations. In addition, CRRES will provide tools and support to emerging environmental organizations. As the host, the Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission is charged with gathering the participating organizations and facilitating environmental stewardship throughout the region. Steering Committee participants recognized that development of the webpage was a necessary first step in facilitating the exchange of information. The Committee envisions CRRES to serve as a collaborative network between agencies and organizations to expand and enhance environmental planning and programming throughout the region.
