Regional Long-Range Transportation Plan (RLRP)
The Regional Long Range Transportation was adopted by

The Virginia Department
of Transportation (VDOT) has begun a new initiative-- regional transportation
plans for rural areas, modeled after the existing metropolitan planning
process. This collaborative planning initiative is to be undertaken in
conjunction with Virginia's Planning District Commissions (PDCs), local
governments and the public.
Plans statewide are to be developed within individual PDC boundaries
(minus any areas that already exist in established metropolitan study
areas). They are to be developed as a vision plan with a minimum planning
horizon of twenty years and are to be reviewed every five years. VDOT
intends to use these plans as a basis for identifying interstate and primary
road priorities for the six-year improvement program.
An important step in this process is the formation of
a Rural Technical Committee (RTC) for each PDC throughout the state. The
RTC is to be composed of a representative from each member jurisdiction
within a PDC, in addition to VDOT representatives and other transportation
stakeholders.
