GERMANNA TECHNOLOGY CENTER Working with representatives of Germanna Community College, the Virginia Community College System's Facilities Management Services department, Virginia DCR, Timmons Group, and Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District, among others, the Regional Commission is helping to monitor and document the execution of the LID components of the project. You can view our brochure on LID implementation and bioretention units here. Groundbreaking A Groundbreaking Ceremony for the 39,000 square foot Germanna Center for Advanced Technology Center, to be constructed on 34 acres, was held on June 2, 2004. Initial Site Work Following a September 28, 2004 kick-off preconstruction meeting, initial site work began. These pictures show the building pad being readied.
Advanced Site Work & Buiding Construction Construction of the main building, parking lot, LID and stormwater features continues throughout 2005.
Installation of Bioretention Units In September 2005, the areas for the bioretention ponds in the parking lot were dug. Each pond is several feet deep and is filled with layers of gravel, soil, and mulch so that stormwater can naturally filter through the ground.
