Regional Partnerships
Workforce Development and Education
Culpeper Career Partners, an organization created by the Culpeper Chamber of
Commerce as a link between business and education, was approved for Regional
Competitiveness Act funding in each of our three years of funding. Two career
academies have been formed, Technology and Engineering and Health and Human Services.
Career Partners has helped provide a summer Career Shadowing experience for 75
Middle/High School teachers, Career Shadowing opportunities for 1000 7th grade
students, a Career Seminar Day for 600 8th grade students, a Career Fair for
1200 9th through 12th grade students, a fully integrated career and technical
curriculum in a career academy format for 90 10th and 11th grade students,
and business mentors for 32 11th grade students. This summer, Career Partners
will
be providing paid internships through local businesses for over 20 11th grade
students.
A regional workforce education brochure was published outlining education opportunities
from local public school systems and the community colleges throughout the region.
Funding was also provided to the Central Virginia Regional Technology Council
and the Fauquier Technology Alliance to assist in start up of their technology
groups. This initial seed money provided by the Partnership has helped to create
a growing economic development force in Fauquier County.
Lord Fairfax Community College used funds from the Partnership to match state
and local funds to develop a computer-learning laboratory for training state
of the art technology software. Both Lord Fairfax and Germanna Community Colleges
will receive funds to promote and market their adult education programs.
