Water Resources 2014

The Regional Commission hosted another installment of its Living Lands - Environmental Planning Workshop series in November 2014, entitled, “Local Water Woes – Regional Solutions.”  Whether the water in your community is drawn from area groundwater reserves, a nearby river or reservoir, or combination of all three, we all rely on a reliable supply of water to work, play and live.  With recent journal articles predicting water shortages in Virginia’s future and a subsequent impact to the state economy, water planning is becoming increasingly critical. Workshop participants explored solutions to local and regional planning issues, such as water supply planning, floodplain management, dam safety, and water re-use.
